Lift Travel Restrictions on Palestinian Journalist

Mr Amayreh was granted an entry visa to Germany. However, the Israeli military authorities have refused to give him a permit to leave the West Bank. It’s bad enough that Congress passed the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008 two weeks ago, spending $165 billion more on our country’s illegal war on and occupation of Iraq well into 2009. To add insult to injury, after closely reading the bill, we discovered that Congress snuck in a last-minute earmark for $170 million in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) for Israel! The culprit: Representative David Obey (WI-7), Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, who has received nearly $225,000 from "pro-Israel" PAC’s and more than $200,000 from the military-industrial complex since 1989, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Yes, the same David Obey who can be seen in this video berating peace activists for wanting to cut off funding for the war in Iraq.

10-year-old subjected to torture by Israeli soldiers

A 10-year-old boy was subjected to physical abuse amounting to torture for 2.5 hours by Israeli soldiers who stormed his family’s shop on 11 June, seeking information on the location of a handgun. The boy was repeatedly beaten, slapped and punched in the head and stomach, forced to hold a stress position for half and hour, and threatened. He was deeply shocked and lost two molar teeth as a result of the assault.

EDM 1926: FREEDOM OF JOURNALISTS AND THE MEDIA IN ISRAEL

"That this House condemns the actions of the Israeli security forces with regard to the Palestinian journalist and joint winner of the 2008 Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism, Mohammed Omer, who after briefing Members of Parliament on the situation in the Gaza Strip, attempted to re-enter the Occupied Territories via the Allenby Bridge and was interrogated at the crossing, strip-searched at gunpoint and beaten for four hours resulting in hospitalisation after he lost consciousness; expresses concern that harassment, intimidation and even killing of journalists has been too frequent an occurrence, particularly since the outbreak of the Intifada in 2000; calls on Israel and all other parties to uphold the freedom of journalists to report; further calls on the Israeli government to launch a full independent inquiry, to compensate Mohammed Omer in full for his injuries; and urges the Government to raise this issue with the government of Israel at the earliest opportunity."

Dear All, Now that we know that Israel will have a government for the next weeks, it is doubly important to have as many signatories as possible on the petition below. Israel is increasing its denial to enter Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly as relates to individuals of Palestinian descent. The three cases in the petition are merely a sample of the stories that keep piling up. We now have slightly over 500 signatories. By sending the petition below with 1000 or more signatures from diverse parts of the world, we send a strong message to the Israeli ministers that this situation is unacceptable. Dear Friends,

Two years ago (in March 2006) it became evident that more and more people with foreign passports (of Palestinian descent and other) were being denied entry and re-entry into the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The situation not only continues, but has worsened this year.

Among persons denied entry are individuals in the film industry, three of whom are named below.

Please help ICRR convince the Israeli authorities to reconsider the denied entry and to enable these three women and others from the film industry to enter the OPT without delay. Please sign our petition, and distribute it widely.
